Our contract ratification vote meetings took place today. We had a meeting at 8:45 am and 4 pm at All Souls Church, and a 2 pm meeting at MEETH.
I am pleased to inform you that as of 6 pm today, we have reached tentative agreement with Lenox Hill/North Shore-LIJ pending the ratification vote of our membership. We will have ratification meetings at All Souls Church tomorrow, Friday 11/2, at 8:45 am and 4 pm, and a 2 pm meeting at MEETH at 64th Street.
Negotiations with the Hospital were postponed Monday and Tuesday of this week due to Hurricane Sandy. Many members of the bargaining team switched from suits to scrubs to help with staffing numbers on the unit.
The NYPNU Bargaining Team has been negotiating with the Hospital and North Shore-LIJ Health System since early September. Some of the System’s harmful proposals have been taken off the table for consideration – but with 8 days left before our contract expires, we are still miles apart on health care insurance, salary, nurse/patient ratios, restrictions on floating, language on no mandatory overtime, education and tuition reimbursement, the 6th week of vacation for nurses with 15+ years seniority, among other fundamental issues.
The NYPNU bargaining committee unanimously agreed to issue the 10-day strike notice to the hospital today. With 6 days left before our contract expires, we still do not have agreement on health care insurance, salary, pension, nurse/patient ratios, restrictions on floating, language on no mandatory overtime, and education, among other fundamental issues. If we do not reach agreement, our strike is scheduled to for Monday, November 5th at 7 AM, pending membership approval.
14 days. There are 14 days before our collective bargaining agreement expires with Lenox Hill Hospital. As we noted in last week’s communications, some progress has been made. Some. But on the fundamentals we are as far apart with the North Shore-LIJ System as we were in September.
We just concluded our 5th session of negotiations with North Shore/LIJ Health System. NYPNU used this session to further make our arguments in support of limiting floating to a nurse’s clinical division and address the punitive approach the newly staffed up LHH Education Department has adopted.
