NYPNU PAC Mission

What is a Political Action Committee?
The New York Professional Nurses Union Political Action Committee's Mission (NYPNU’s PAC) is to advocate for legislation promoting safe Nurse/Patient Ratios, quality patient care, and safe working conditions. NYPNU’s PAC intends to support candidates for office who stand for our causes.

What NYPNU’s PAC Will Do:

  • Makes recommendations to the Executive Board regarding which campaigns to support with our PAC fund.
  • Encourage members who are not registered to vote to do so.
  • Inform NYPNU members of the issues, the candidates, their public records and stand on legislation that supports the profession of nursing.
  • Encourage NYPNU members to vote in elections and primaries.
  • Go to Washington D.C., Albany, or City Hall to advocate for legislation that affects the Health Care industry (including lobby days).
  • Write letters to your representatives expressing your concerns about under staffing in Hospitals, hazardous working conditions Unsafe Nurse/Patient ratios, hospital mergers, cut backs and takeovers. You can also write your representatives to express your support for legislation.

Why Should You Join?
As Registered Nurses we have the responsibility to provide quality patient care. Each year there are a number of bills that affect our profession. It is important that we pay attention to legislation that cuts back on hospital funding, nursing education requirements, quality patient care and health care reform.

By voicing our opinions about legislation and candidates for office we can ensure that our profession continues to thrive, guaranteeing quality patient care, safe working conditions and Nurse/Patient ratios.
