Lorelei Belo-Ynayan | 9 Wollman, Nights
I have been with Lenox Hill Hospital since 1990 with extensive medical/surgical nursing experience. In the last decade, however, circumstances led me to a telemetry area, specifically orthopedics in 9 Wollman. My passion for better working conditions and to have fairness and equality in the workplace setting prompted me to be actively involved in our union since the early years of my employment and I have been a member of the Executive Board for almost two decades now.
Vice President Roy Milbouer | Cath Lab, Days
Hello, my name is Roy Milbouer, I am a staff nurse in the Cardiovascular Cath Lab as well as Vice President of NYPNU. My career at LHH started in 1987 and my clinical focus has primarily been within the critical care division. During this time, I have worked in CCU, PCU, PACU and the CATH LAB. My service within NYPNU has consisted of being a Delegate, Executive Board member, NYPNU Secretary, Contract negotiating committee member, founding Treasurer to our regional affiliate NENA and Vice President of NYPNU since 2017. I have had the honor and privilege of working with many caring, dedicated, thoughtful & determined people over the years and have truly benefited both personally and professionally from those interactions. It is my firm belief and experience that our union empowers nurses to have a determinant voice in their workplace. It is with that voice through representation and the collective bargaining process that nurses at LHH, MEETH & LHGV have achieved precedent setting contract language that has positively affected nurses working conditions, compensation, the nursing profession and most importantly resulted in better and safer care to the patients we serve. United together in common goals with a strong voice we can face any challenge!
Secretary Jean Rodd | NICU, Days
My name is Jean Rodd, and I have been a LHH NICU nurse for 37 years.
I came to realize very early in my career the importance of a union, specifically NYPNU. It is run by the nurses who work the front lines and fully understand the issues.
I was only a nurse for 3 years when we walked the picket line to institute major safety changes, and solve major salary discrepancies. It was awe inspiring, all of us standing up for what was right and setting standards that other hospitals are striving to achieve.
Ten years ago, I became a delegate to once again attempt to solve safety issues in my own unit. Through negotiations we were able to have a charge without an assignment (prior we were not recognized as an intensive care area). And through a NYPNU formed task force we were able to tackle other major issues.
I have never been overly outspoken, or confrontational, but these wonderful people have helped me every step of the way.
I have learned that there is power in sticking together to do the right thing.
I am forever grateful to NYPNU for everything they’ve done for me, my unit, my hospital.
I enjoy continuing to serve you as delegate and secretary, to help achieve more great things.
President Kathleen Flynn | Pediatric Resource Team, Retired
My name is Kathleen Flynn, I am proud to represent the nurses of LHH, LHGV and MEETH as President of NYPNU.
I started my nursing career in 1978, and worked at LHH for 37 years on various units---medicine, pediatrics and a float nurse in MCH. I helped unionize the nurses back in 1980, and I was a founding member of our independent nurses union, NYPNU, back in 1984. We have achieved so much over the years, being the first union to include nurse patient ratios in a collective bargaining agreement, eliminating mandatory overtime, achieving competitive salaries and working conditions. I attended Fordham Law School, graduating in 1991. I believed Law School would augment my skills as a union leader, however, while I found Law School worthwhile, I believe my interactions and collaborations with bedside nurses to be most beneficial. I’ve been privileged to know so many outstanding nurses and union leaders; it is amazing what we can accomplish when we are united in our common efforts!
