President Kathleen Flynn

My name is Kathleen Flynn, I am proud to represent the nurses of LHH, LHGV and MEETH as President of NYPNU.

I started my nursing career in 1978, and worked at LHH for 37 years on various units---medicine, pediatrics and a float nurse in MCH. I helped unionize the nurses back in 1980, and I was a founding member of our independent nurses union, NYPNU, back in 1984. We have achieved so much over the years, being the first union to include nurse patient ratios in a collective bargaining agreement, eliminating mandatory overtime, achieving competitive salaries and working conditions. I attended Fordham Law School, graduating in 1991. I believed Law School would augment my skills as a union leader, however, while I found Law School worthwhile, I believe my interactions and collaborations with bedside nurses to be most beneficial. I’ve been privileged to know so many outstanding nurses and union leaders; it is amazing what we can accomplish when we are united in our common efforts!
